Transitional Style // Zebra print blouse 2 ways

petite black cropped straight jeans boston blog

Ann Taylor pumps sz 5 (2 colors), straight jeans 00 petite, hems cut, Zebra blouse xxsp, tweed blazer 00p, belt xs (extra hole punched) – outfit c/o

I can’t believe September is around the corner! I’m gradually trading in my summer brights for deeper hues, and shorts for transitional pieces like cropped jeans (which I love styled with mules in warm weather, and with booties to cover up bare ankles in the winter). I’m partnering with Ann Taylor to highlight a few petite-friendly items I’ve picked out from my extensive try-ons lately. Below are two looks styled with some mix and match pieces – which one do you like better?

Here’s a few fit & fabric notes on each of the pieces in my post:

Azra cutout pumps – So good! The classic suede pump updated with a flattering, leg lengthening cut. My favorite work-to-weekend heels from over the years are from Ann Taylor and they have all lasted me through countless wears. The straight across cut has a modern feel to it, while the V-cutout sides visually add an inch or two to the leg line. These are comfortable given the heel height and fit is TTS – took my usual size 5 in Ann Taylor.

Zebra blouse – TTS and unbuttons at the top half. Done in a darker tan print instead of the usual black and white, so it’s a little more subtle for work and can even pass as abstract stripes! This is actually a longer tunic style (hits crotch length on me) with a rounded hem, perfect for wearing over leggings for some rear coverage.

Sculpting high rise straight jeans – for those of you who are bored with skinny jeans but afraid to branch out too much, I am loving straight cut denim as a chic alternative that’s still easy to pull off! I cut these about 1″ since I like my straight jeans to be cropped, and the hem will develop a nice subtle fray after a few machine wash & drys. These are extremely comfortable with great stretch and a durable, thicker material, but note there is a 2″ waist gap on me so I wear these with a waist belt. I’m wearing the petite Modern cut, but these also come in a petite Curvy cut which have a greater hip to waist ratio. Measurements of size 00P is 13″ across the waist with a 10″ rise and 24.5″ inseam.

Pine pencil skirt – Runs big. For ladies who are similarly sized as me, you would need to take this in along the waist and hips in order for it to fit high waisted. Color is a true dark pine green, material is lined and lighter weight with a back zipper.

Tweed blazer – this is a very thick blazer and can easily be worn as a fall jacket due to the weight. Material is a knit style tweed so is a little softer and more pliable than traditional tweed. Fit is TTS and color is a true taupe (brown-grey) in my opinion.

  2. Only you could tempt me to pick up animal print when I have no need for workwear! 🙂

I couldn’t choose between the two stylings though, they’re both great.

Hey there! Your blog is super helpful, and I appreciate the way you help me to think about different ways to style my pieces. I am in love with rust as a warm, Fall color alterative to traditional burgundies and brown tones. I’m struggling to find great sweaters and blouses that are of decent quality and available in this beautiful rust red/orange. Any recommendations or recent finds you could share?

Hi Nicole, I have rust on my mind as well and will be keeping an eye out for fall pieces in that color! Off the top of my mind this was a beautiful pair of tie waist pants that I reviewed last month. Stay tuned, I’ll be sure to share more finds in this hue!
