I recently partnered with Ann Taylor on an IG video, and know from feedback that many of you still prefer photos to carefully look through the details! Per usual I also like to include additional info on the fit, fabrics and any adjustments that I made in a longer blog post format. I personally tend to gravitate towards creams and camels, but also like to mix it up with a punch of color (love a vibrant long coat), so wanted to show some Fall options for both neutral and color lovers!
This weekend October 15-16th, AT is having 40% off with free shipping (code CYBERFALL)!
High Waist Side Zip Straight Pant
In regular & petite sizing
Last year I shared this same cut of pant (see on me here) in a suede-like fabric and they were an instant reader favorite! The rise and silhouette is elongating and flattering, and the latest twill fabric is a sturdy weight with comfortable stretch. They come in several colors and fabrics and the petite inseam works well on me with a mid-high heel. One of the reviews mentioned sizing down but I found these to run TTS for Ann Taylor, if you’re familiar with their pants fit. I did also try the “pearl blush” but the lighter color in this fabric type accentuated my lower belly, so I prefer the darker colors!
Belted High Waist Taper Pant
In petite & regular sizing
A classic pant that you can wear all 4 seasons. These come in tan and black but also fun colors like orchid. For fit reference, I’m about 25″ around the waist and the 00P still. had a little room on me there. They’re cut loosely through the thighs and taper in a bit toward the ankle. The petite sizing has a 25″ inseam which hits full length on me (right below the ankle) at 5 ft. tall. Personally I have been liking above the ankle so I used iron on hemming tape and made them 1 inch shorter (pictured below). I need to press the iron over the hemming tape longer than the instructions say to, but it does work!
Shirred blouse (5 colors)
AT is my go-to for their drape blouses and this one is a nice middle ground of fabric that has a little structure but still drapes. It has feminine little details like shirring along the shoulders and a subtly puffed sleeves.
Chesterfield coat
This is AT’s coat of the season that they made in several colors and fabrics. The “almondine” color is a longer, fluffier mohair style fabric and the “summer orchid” is made of a finer, shorter haired texture. I found this to run a little big and is cut straighter through the torso rather than a slim fitted style, with the sleeves hitting about an inch below my wrist bone. I folded them under a bit in these photos to let the sweater sleeves show through, but the full length sleeves work fine on someone my height.
Hi Jean! I love the first outfit with the black and white heels! I just purchased the entire out when i saw it on Instagram. Please what bag can i wear with it?
Thanks
Hi Lisa! The lilac and burgundy outfit? Depending on what shoes you pair it with, purple hues can pair beautifully with chocolate brown, grey, cream / beige, and there’s always the staple black. I tried the outfit on with shoes and boots in those various colors and liked how it looked, but ended up going with a wildcard tweed shoe for a mix and match element!
Beautiful and simple, thanks for sharing.
Hi Jean!
Spot on again! I just purchased the side zip pants in black and have two other colors as well. Love them!! Loving Ann Taylor this fall and the burgundy with pink trend is so fun. I inherited my great-aunt Edna’s vintage long raspberry cashmere coat that I can’t wait to style! Just has to get colder lol. I’m looking for longer pant lengths now with winter approaching but am still wearing a few crops. Looking great as usual, thanks for the inspiration!!
Hi April – aren’t the pants awesome? Am glad they’re an AT mainstay now. And wow, what a gorgeous and unique sounding heirloom that coat is. Hope you have a great long weekend!
I used to really enjoy your website, but since it has been monetized with stores like Ann Taylor, Express and Everlane, it lacks creativity, inspiration and personality.
I’ve enjoyed working with Ann Taylor for about 10 years now! The wonderful thing about blogs like this is that it is free to read and you are free to find other ones that may better suit you personally.
Ah, I really wish the straight pant was short enough to wear without heels! I’m in SF and heels are just not a thing people in my industry wear. Love the color and the fit looks great on you, Jean!
Thank you, Lia! Not sure your height or inseam but it may work on someone a little taller than me (5′ tall) with flats!
