I love playing with textures when the weather cools – I’ve been looking for pieces in different Fall materials that will also look cute paired with tights! I have some items from Soprano that run small, so was happy to discover that this cognac faux leather skirt is also petite-friendly. It’s juniors sizing so runs a little smaller than womens ~ an XS fits like a 00, and measures 12″ across the waist, 16″ across the hips, and about 15″ – 16″ in front length. It has an invisible side zipper and a little stretch to the fabric. I styled it here with bare legs and neutral shoes, but it’s also flattering with black tights and black booties! This same brand also makes a faux suede ruffle skirt in a beautiful terracotta hue.
This Halogen sweater from Nordstrom features one of my favorite, feminine trends that is still going strong – sleeve detailing! As with most tops that have tie sleeves, you’ll need to tie the bows tightly so that they stay securely in place. This sweater is true-to-size and lighter in weight, so is well-suited for tucking into bottoms. Halogen also makes several other Fall knits in both petites and regular, in a whole rainbow of colors! This cozy wool / cashmere tunic sweater (on sale) is the perfect length for wearing with leggings and covers the crotch without being too long. I also own this soft 100% cashmere pullover, which comes in a v-neck as well. I took my usual size XXS petite (see it on me here and here), but one size up didn’t look bad either for a slouchier fit!
My cousin packed these Sole Society Lyriq booties for our family getaway in scenic New Hampshire, during which we both wasted no time in swapping some pieces! These are a size 5 and feel true-to-size, ending at the top of my ankles for a surprisingly flattering cutoff point. She mentioned the material took some breaking in initially but are comfortable after a few wears considering the height of the heel.
Thank you to Nordstrom for partnering on this post.
This is the cutest outfit and we love your color choices! The charming bows accenting your deep burgundy sweater make this gorgeous pop of fall color so feminine. The lines on your faux leather ruffle skirt are figure flattering and the hat and cute little booties make the perfect finishing touches. We love seeing looks come together so well! Hi, Jean, can you tell me what color Lyriq booties you’re wearing there? I’m looking for a cute brown bootie, and those look great!
Also, I love your site! I have spent way too much money after seeing your cute outfits!! 😉
Sorry to go off tangent, but I just love your eyebrows! Would you kindly share what product you use for them? Thank you!
Cute leather skirt
That faux leather skirt is so lovely! I have two very similar ones from Zara, in black and in white, but the brown colour is beautiful for fall!

loved the skirt so much, very trendy.
Hi Jean, I purchased this outfit from Nordstrom immediately after this post! I received the skirt in the mail today but it came out of the box so wrinkled. Any tips on how to smooth out faux leather? I’m assuming it can’t be ironed. Thank you!
Lauren F. from Providence, RI
Hi Lauren! I totally forgot to mention this, but I used my handheld travel steamer (purchased from Amazon … there are lots of very similar-looking options) and steamed it inside-out. Let me know if that works for you. If you don’t have steamer in general yet, I’d highly recommend getting one and you’ll never want to iron again!
How did you like the skirt otherwise?
Great idea. I’ll pick up a steamer today. The skirt fit beautifully. I’m usually a 0/xs/25 in skirts/pants and I decided to size up to a small in this piece. It was the right choice. I’m excited to wear this outfit to the Ocean House for my anniversary. Many thanks!
Texture and textiles help make a great wardrobe! The color is great , as I always recommend draw your color palette from nature and you can’t go wrong !

Those boots look amazing for this weather! We are having a really warm fall (which is nice since I am a Floridian), and I always love a good leather skirt! I think I just might get the sweater for myself!
You always have something new to share with us. I like this outfit color combination.
I love the way you’ve mixed the texture of the leather skirt with the softness of the sweater. So perfect for fall <3

I love the outfit and have purchased both the sweater and skirt for my daughter. I was wondering how you would style this same outfit for winter weather? Tights? If so, what color would you choose?

Hi Amber! I hope she loves it! I wore the skirt again recently with black tights. If you pair it with a neutral top like tan or black, I would also do burgundy or hunter green tights! I’m also looking forward to pairing the faux leather material with ribbed sweater tights when the weather gets even colder.
Beautiful outfit and backdrop. I have to ask if you don’t mind, what kind of lens and camera do you use that get that beautiful bokeh! I absolutely love the crispiness of your photos and the haze of the backdrop.
Thank you, Viviane! I use an old camera – a Canon 6D that I’ve had for years. We usually shoot with a 50mm 1.4 lens which is more affordable, and you can get pretty good bokeh if the subject stands closer to you and the background is very far away. For half of the photos here we used a 85mm 1.2 lens, which we usually reserve for partial body shots with extra bokeh.
Hi Jean, what is your favorite comfortable, everyday bootie from Sole Society? I’m torn between the rivers and vixen styles. And I know you’ve tried a variety of other styles from them too.
Hi Lindsay! Yes I’ve tried on a ton of their different styles. Some do not work for me but the few that I’ve posted are pretty good with some small differences. River has a slightly higher and smaller-shaped heel than the Vixen, so I think the Vixen would be the most comfortable as an everyday bootie (plus I loved the “new camel” color). With a heel height at under 2,” it could pass as a flat for me ; ) The only reason I didn’t keep the Vixen after trying it on is because I already have similar styles.
Oops, didn’t realize I wasn’t logged in above ; )
Yesss I love leather skirts for fall! I’ve been wearing mine everywhere!

I absolutely adore the details on your sleeves. Amazing and very feminine too. It would be a great choice for in the classroom too. Comfy and very, very classy! Love, Lieske
So gorgeous! I especially love the hat. Have you been altering anything you’ve been wearing in recent posts, or is everything fitting the way it did when first bought?
Hi Valerie! I will note it in the “outfit details” box if something has been altered or shrunken in the dryer. So if you don’t see any notes of that sort, then it should mean no adjustments were made. Each piece does fit a little differently though in terms of being snug vs. looser, which I try to specify within each post : )
Such a gorgeous leather flounce skirt!

Hi Jean! Are you still using the Ann Taylor linen sweater you posted about here http://www.extrapetite.com/2015/04/sunday-sales-recent-petite-spring.html ? And if not, could I purchase it from you? O.o I hope this isn’t inappropriate to ask! I’ve been admiring it ever since you posted about it, and missed the boat on finding my size in stock at Ann Taylor.
Hi Tara! It’s not inappropriate to ask at all … you have a good memory! : ) I still love that sweater so won’t be parting with it, but will keep my eyes peeled if anything similar comes along.
Haha no worries! Thanks for replying 🙂 And I’m glad you still love it.
Fall vibes all over the place in this picture! Plus I love the color of this little miniskirt and its ruffles. So cute!

Hi, Jean! Love this outfit…the faux leather skirt has especially caught my eye! As far as fit, do you think the XS would fit someone who usually takes a 0P?
Hi Jordan, let me measure it for you when I get home and have a measuring tape!
Thanks, Jean! 🙂
Hi Jordan – I added the measurements up above! Hope it helps!
Seasonal outfit perfect for Fall! Can you tell us a little more about the Sole Society scarf you got (c/o)? I see you carrying it in one of the pictures.
Hi Jessica! You can see more photos of it in this blog post: http://www.extrapetite.com/2017/09/fall-accessories-tan-ankle-boots-blanket-scarf.html. I love the mix of burgundy, taupe, and navy – very easy to pair with my existing wardrobe!
I love that you borrowed your booties from your cousin. I have to say that when you are very small, one of your best clothing resources is relatives. My sister and I regularly show up for events with the same clothing on, including to her daughter’s wedding! My daughter loves your sight… you could certainly share clothing:)
Yes, I’m so fortunate that my only cousin happens to be the same size! Love that your sister shares your taste in clothing : )
Such a cute Fall look, love this sweater.

The backdrop is so amazingly beautiful – wish we had places like this in Hong Kong!
I really like your top, especially the burgundy shade. That and mustard yellow are the perfect colours for fall.
