Home Decor Diaries: 2 Reader Favorite Sofas On Sale

macys couch reviews and sofa sales

I’ve been sharing tidbits on furnishing our new space, which has been a drawn-out process for this indecisive shopper! Luckily, thanks to this online community I’ve been getting so much helpful feedback from many of you who already own the items we’ve been considering!

After looking at sofas from various stores, we had narrowed it down to Pottery Barn vs. Crate & Barrel (and did lots of stain tests on fabric swatches, which I can share more about) before Macy’s swooped in as a new top contender. Their prices are very reasonable, and I was sold after trying out comfort in-person and reading countless satisfied messages from readers. Our living room is definitely still a work-in-progress, but I’m thrilled to finally have a comfy spot to plop down and put my feet up!

Below are two reader favorite sofas that we tried & loved, and both are currently on sale! I had purchased sofa #2 at full price, and got a sizable price adjustment refund (within their 10-day policy).

1. Jollene Collection

Style: Mid century / modern, available in blue or greyish brown.

If we were deciding based on comfort and not my personal style (which veers more feminine and French-inspired), we tested every sofa in the Macy’s showroom and thought this was the winner. Not to mention, the flip top ottoman is genius. Per Nick, this sofa feels more soft (but not too soft), cozy, and inviting compared to many pricier options we tried in similar designs. Readers mentioned that it was super comfortable and kid-friendly, plus easy to clean with removable, washable pillow covers.

Note: If you’re looking to test out a floor model of Macy’s furniture, do call the store first to confirm it’s there and don’t just rely on the online locator!

2. Martha Stewart Saybridge Collection

Style: Romantic chesterfield in a velvet-like fabric.

Nick actually found this online as a contender for our space (which was surprising to me, as he had been pushing for a more contemporary sofa)! The style is right up my alley and I liked that the silhouette is a little more fresh than some classic chesterfield couches that are double the price. The seat depth and height were firm yet comfortable for both of us, but what really sold me was hearing from some of you who’ve owned this exact sofa for many years!

Color choice: The most difficult decision was picking out a color! It’s very unfortunate they don’t offer swatches for at-home, especially since not many stores carry specific models and their indoor lighting can be dismal.

I ended up ordered Light Grey because it was the only color in stock and ready to ship at the time (note: the in-stock color inventory changes daily) and we’re very happy with it! A close contender was their most popular Storm Grey, which is a medium grey with a sage green tint to it. The swatches below make these two greys look starkly different, but in certain lighting they can look similar.

Did the sofa smell from chemicals when you got it? I adore this sofa but I’m very sensitive to those kind of smells. I’d really appreciate some feedback from you. Thanks so much! Love your site!

    Hi Jean,
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing these sofas! We just moved and were looking for a sofa, which felt like an impossible task till I saw your post! We ended up getting the Jollene from Macy’s and couldn’t be happier. I started following you not too long ago and love all your posts and recommendations. Just a note to say thank you!! Good luck with your 2nd on the way! We had our 2nd in early March and now have 2 under 2 – it’s an adventure!

Hi Jean, an avid fan here! Love you and your family. I just wanted to get your input though about the couch you just bought. I’m also in the process of buying a new couch for our living room and I can’t make up my mind. 🙁 I think my style is similar to yours cause I love your couch. However, my only concern is that..do you think this style will still be in a few years from now? Cause I wanted to buy it too but I’m worried that it may be outdated in a few years time. Thanks in advance for your response. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi and thank you! I don’t think they’re on their way out of style since chesterfield couches have been around for a couple centuries now, but it definitely depends on your personal tastes whether you think it’s stylish. Personally, it’s a style I’ve liked for many years so I’m not concerned!

I have had the Martha Stewart Saybridge couch and loveseat for 8 years and I love them. I got a sea blue green color. I am trying to clean it and can’t find the cleaning code to know whether I can use water or solvents. The fabric is the same as the gray one pictured.

Can I ask you a random question about your Everlane jeans? I just bought some from one of your links because they were on sale! I’m really short too- 4’11”. I notice that you said you cut the hems with scissors. Did you sew them at all, or just cut them and leave them? Thanks! Love your style!

Thank you Ashley! I don’t resew them – just cut them and then wash and dry so that the frayed hem looks a bit more warn in.

We purchased that blue sectional with the matching ottoman. So convenient and yes, comfy. Easy to clean with the Dyson cordless vac. I’m usually a plain Jane and like the greys for furniture, but this blue added some much needed color to our grey-toned home.

Im considering getting the blue one after seeing this! One of my concerns is if it has a smell, some couches have a chemically smell that off gases for so long,..maybe from fire retardants or foam?

Oh… rugs!! Eager to see what you find. I’m a bit obsessed with rugs since the shutdown. Currently I’m loving Nomad Rugs in SF. I found them online and fell in love (I’ve never actually been to the store). Their contemporary styles might work with your style, though I love the bright patterns myself. The owner has a great eye plus I enjoy all the rug history on the blog. I bet there are some great rug stores where you are, since it’s cold so much of the year!

Oh wow good to know. I feel silly for going all the way to NH! I had called downtown Boston and they said NH was the nearest store with it. I don’t even see peacock online – that sounds lovely!

Not silly at all! It must have been a nice drive. It’s good to see things in person.
I originally wanted the cornflower blue color, but it looks more gray in person. The peacock color they don’t have online, but the swatch they had in the store is a lovely blue color. Crossing my fingers that it also looks as nice on the sofa when it comes. The salesperson said there are about 100 colors to choose from

Not sure if you’re looking for a rug, but if you are, you should check out “ruggable”. It’s not as comfy feeling as a regular rug but since I have 2 kids, I love that I can wash it when mishaps happen.

I’ve been a big fan of yours since the beginning, thanks for your fun posts!
